Avant Garde is a term used to describe something or someone that is radical, daring, unorthodox. People who are 'avant garde' or appreciates 'avant garde' are branded or thought of as weird. But for me, I believe avant garde people are the most creative and imaginative people. They don't think in a way most people think. They see or understand what most people don't. They are rebellious in their own way, non-conformists. They make and appreciate art at its unusual form. And this is why I regard highly of them. I admire them because it just doesn't take guts to voice out your expression in an avant garde way, it also takes art and creativity to do that. Well, I do admit that I didn't 'get' what they are doing at first. Like, "What the hell are they thinking?" But when I had my mind grew 'maturely' and learned what art really is, all I ever had for them is admiration.
Tessa Prieto-Valdes is the first avant garde person I ever appreciated. Then, there came three infamous people:
ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
VIKTOR AND ROLF
MARY KATRANTZOU
These three people are just ah-mey-ziiinggg and awesome!!! It's not possible that you can't adore them! This is what you call art in fashion. It's not just clothes but it's talent and creativity. Notice McQueen's craftmanship and out-of-this world concept. (Although at the recent collection, it's his assistant Sarah Burton who did the collection and I must say, she really lived up to McQueen's legacy and name). You cannot miss out the details in his collection. Very well crafted. Aside from his over-the-top shows, McQueen's known for the well-made details in the clothes that he made. And who wouldn't miss Viktor and Rolf's collection? The ruffles and the insane layering (Viktor and Rolf Spring 2010 RTW), the reinvention of a man's classic shirt (Viktor and Rolf Spring 2011 RTW) are just brilliant. How about Katrantzou? That lampshade skirt is totally cool. And the colors are very much alive! Plus they are totally wearable. :)

Avant garde are not for all sorts of people. Obviously, most of them are not wearable for most people. Though there are a few in every collection that can be wearable, it still takes the right attitude to pull it off. But it doesn't mean you can't get weirdly looks from other people. :p Well, who cares anyway? :D
