Saturday Favorites 011

Disclaimer: This entry should have been photo heavy but until now, I'm still waiting for tagged photos through Facebook. Will put in photos here once I get some from my friends.

After missing one Saturday Favorites entry from last week, I'm back! :) I got a very hectic weekend schedule last week and I was just dead tired every time I went home. Anyway, I'll squeeze in my Saturday Favorites from last week in here. :)

1. One of my closest friends was in Manila for a vacay!!!!! :) She was supposed to be my house guest since Tuesday last week but she changed her mind and decided to stay at her cousin's. She slept over by Friday night though. :)

2. Music Bank with Pits and Keith! :) Damn, I missed these two!!!

3. Shopping with my brother and Pits. I bought cute boxer shorts and some accessories (Refer to the photo under item number 5.)

Thank you, Pits, for this Alexander McQueen-ish ring! :)
4. I had my x-ray done and the way my spine looked wasn't so surprising at all. Haha! Although I expected it to be curved a little less than it actually is.

5. As I was waiting for my turn to be x-rayed and for lunch break, I scored good deals (the semi-sheer khaki cape top and one very sexy white one-piece swimsuit) at the mall. :) Lucky for me, it was a sale day. To make things even better, I expected it to be only half the price off but it's freakin' 70% off!!! Whaddup! :)

6. Pyrolympics finale show! :) (I only had videos of the show so I really can't share you anything visual. Once I get the photos from my friend's cousin, I will post some here. :D)

So, meanwhile. Let me share a story about our unimaginable Pyrolympics experience.

We expected traffic since it was a Saturday. We took the train to save time. AND ENERGY. We got off at Gil Puyat station and from there, we would take the jeepney going to SM Mall of Asia. Once we got out of the station, we were shocked by the number of people waiting for a ride. I mean, it was crazy. Like there was a transport strike or something, that the number of PUVs seemed... lacking. We know it would be impossible for us to get a ride, even a cab. Still, we tried. We (among others) tried intercepting jeepneys in the wrong side of the highway and in the wrong drop off spot for their passengers. To our utmost surprise, only a few drivers entertained us. Out of all the days that they can break road rules, why didn't it have to be that night? (HAHA! Sorry, MMDA. :l) You see, this was the part where we had to use the energy that we tried to save, which I mentioned earlier. We had no choice but to do the unimaginable thing -- WALK. I had no problem with walking. BUT TO WALK FROM GIL PUYAT TO SEASIDE?! That's like 3-4 km? (Or probably that's just how far it felt for us. Correct my estimate if I'm wrong.)  Thinking about it now, it felt like an accomplishment! It was insane. The cars weren't even moving so even if we were able to get a ride, it would be useless. We would still have walked.

After 30-45 minutes of 'spontaneous' walking, we reached the spot! We spent another 15 minutes, I think, of looking for the entrance for the tickets we got. We got VIP tickets so we had to walk further more, all the way to the front. There seemed to be three checkpoints just to get in to the area where we were supposed to be! After showing our tickets and getting stamps on the wrist, we walked towards a girl behind what seemed a silver barricade. We passed through that and walked more. Of course, since we got in late, there weren't seats available. My friend's cousin insisted that we probably got in in the wrong area and that we might have to walk further. We saw another silver barricade with a girl behind it. We asked her where exactly was the VIP section. She asked for our tickets and she let us in. I was surprised to see a buffet table! Then, a guy came up to us and asked if we could wait for a few minutes and he'll find a table for us. I was even more surprised when he said that. I nudged my friend's cousin's elbow and told her I was sure that we weren't in the VIP area either. I was the one who bought the tickets for us and I know that next to VIP is the Patron one, wherein free dinner will be served. We were wondering why they let us in, in the first place. We were already starving and our legs were just dead tired so we just didn't bother saying anything. Haha! We just thought of it as a blessing that we deserve from the long walk we had to take. And initially though, it really was an honest mistake. We showed our tickets to them. They could have said, "No, you're not supposed to be here" or something. We just got lucky after all, I guess! :) The food was superb! :)

We didn't get to watch the final contestant for the Pyromusical, which is Italy, properly since we were walking at that time. We got there just in time for the finale presentation, which is the Philippines, the host country. The finale show of the Philippines was astounding, worth the wait of the pause caused by the technical difficulties about halfway in the presentation.

Since it was the final week, the winners for the Pyromusical Competition were also announced that night. The winners were: 1st - Canada; 2nd - tie between Australia and Finland; 3rd - Netherlands.

Of course, our night wouldn't end just like that. May huling hirit pa. Since the mall was jam-packed with the Pyro-goers and the sale-oholic people, commuters like me had a hard time waiting for a ride home. I was too tired already that I didn't bother looking for an alternative and faster way to go home. I know I would either be standing or walking again. I didn't want to ride a cab alone at 10:30 PM either. So I waited at the van stop. There was a long line so when it was my turn to be able to get in a van, it was already 12:00 in the morning. Nganga talaga ako for 1 1/2 hour. Haha!

It was the first Pyromusical show that I have watched and it was made even memorable by the free food, the longest walk I had ever walked and the butt sore from waiting. Nevertheless, it was still a good night (and experience) after all!

7. The Power of NO. :) Don't just kiss ass or nod and say yes all the time. You gotta say no, too, if really deemed necessary. (At least that's for me. 'Yes'-girl is never my thing.)

8. BUSIEST WEEK AT WORK E-VER. Whew.

9. My supplier will be supplying me items (as additional to the items that I handmade and on my online store) anytime soon! :)

10. Second consult at my spine doctor. He told me not to worry for I won't have to undergo any rehab or surgery. My spine only had 26 degrees of curvature, very far from critical angle which is 45 degrees, around my thoracic area. I would just have to do another x-ray by next year to see if there will be any increase in the angle of my spine. :)

11. This random photo over tumblr.

12. Finished the book, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I thought I was gonna finish it before February ends, but I was wrong. I marked my February List in advance, haha!

Oh, summer! :)

SUMMMMMMEEEEEERRRRRRR IS HEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRE!!!!!!! :)

Okay, I know it just rained this morning and afternoon and the weather's all so confusing lately due to global warning but it still is summer season in the Philippines after all. It's scorching hot most of the time.

I had a random idea of looking for summer-themed photos that I'll use as my computer's wallpaper and here are some of them.

*I apologize if I can't be able to credit the photos appropriately. I don't take credit for these photos though. I just googled them. Hee.*

No, I don't know her. :l
OH, HOW I WISH I HAVE ABS LIKE THIS!

I also included here some photos I took during the 2 recent trips I had to the beach in Palawan and Batangas.

And yes, I really had to include this photo of Zac Efron here. You have to admit, his sleek, 50s or 60s vibe, in this photo sends off a hot summer flush. Heat stroke. Hahaha! Very Grease, John Travolta-ish! :)

Summer lovin had me a blast
Summer lovin happened so fast...
Summer days driftin' away, to uh-oh those summer nights...

And before I end this very random entry, I leave you with one of my summer songs. The very classic Summer Girls by LFO. :)

Good night everyone! :)

For the little things

Last week, a brother of a 22-year old lady who was diagnosed with Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor with Spinal Cord Compression, secondary to Bone Metastasis went to our office to ask for medical assistance. Upon talking to the brother, I had mixed feelings. First, I was shocked because she was that young. It's my first time to hear this diagnosis that I have to Google it (Although I don't think it's my first time to encounter this, I had a patient when I was still a volunteer nurse who just became paralyzed in a snap with no apparent reason and the doctors couldn't seem to come up with an appropriate diagnosis for her due to her different symptoms). I was saddened because her life ahead of her is just about to start but now it seemed so far. And no offense meant, but I felt blessed at the very moment. To think I was even preoccupied with my own little complains and rants which I was discussing with my friend that morning. Compared to her, I had no right to even complain just a bit.

It's not every day that we recognize or take notice of God's little blessings. We are preoccupied with so much that is going on with our life that we don't even pause and think about the good things in our day. We bitch out, we complain, we rant, we curse, we blow things out of proportion. We only notice the bad stuff that comes our way. Let's not wait for someone's unfortunate situation for us to recognize how blessed we are. The fact that we wake up every morning is already one big blessing. A simple gratitude and appreciation to God and His blessings is way more than enough. At least God knows that we know. :) So let's all thank God for every little thing that comes our way, be it good or bad. :)

At the same time, I also pray for the 22-year old girl. I hope she'll get through this. If ever she will not, God bless her soul, I hope she will be at peace and her family will be able survive this ordeal.

Saturday Favorites 010

1. Pretty productive week
Self-explanatory. :)

2. First orthopedic check-up
Bad news: So I have scoliosis.
Good news. Since my bones have reached maturity, it is less likely to worsen. My scoliosis is minimal and nothing alarming though.
I have to undergo x-ray for my spine for baseline measurement and to really see how it looks. I will share more after my x-ray and second visit with my doctor. :)

3. Smash Project 2012
Honestly, if this concert was solely by Dashboard Confessional (Okay, Starship Cobra can join in), I would have watched. The show had 4 bands in their line-up. I was expecting DC would only play a few songs. I am not also familiar with the band, The Cab and I only heard The Used a few times. But anyway, YouTube would be less useful if you can't find clips of concerts or shows. I seriously doubt as well that nobody, not even one single person, would share and upload his/her own clips from a concert or show, too. :)

Oh, Chris Carrabba, marry me. *teary* Hahaha!

4. Meet-up with Jeff and Reg! :)
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hahahaha!
Finally, the long overdue meet-up had finally occurred! It was nice catching up with you both! It's been three years since we last saw each other, Jeff! Boy, you dropped a bomb on me! OMG. But congratulations!!! :) And can I just say that I really did miss McDonald's food. :) It was one helluva lunch! Haha!

5. Good news!
Hah! CGFNS finally issued a report to NYSED!!!!! :) Let's wait some more for my NY License to land in my very hands and have my papers processed! :)

March Listography

Okay, I apologize if I made my list for this month a week late. Anyway, as you can see below, there's no much difference in this list with my former ones. I try to stick with a simple and less demanding list since I don't have all the time and the resources.

Let's also look back to see how far I was able to accomplish my list from last month:

I know. Fail ang February ko. :l SHAME ON ME. Haha!

To Anonymous

On a regular basis, my blog does not get flooded with comments. If ever someone does leave a comment, they are either from my closest friends or my uncle and rarely from a stranger. Generally, I only get passersby. So when this comment was placed on one of my entries from way back 2007, I was taken aback.

Initially, I thought this anonymous person was mad at me (And I'd like to think he/she really is not but correct me if ever I'm wrong, Anonymous). I had to reread that entry he/she was pertaining to. I had to reread his/her comment, like 5 times or more, as well. I decided to post my reply to her through this and here it is:

Hi Anonymous! First of all, if you haven't noticed, the entry was written almost 5 years ago. And 5 years ago, I was a stupid, tactless and immature 19 year-old. Though, of course, it's not a valid reason or excuse for saying what I said. Obviously, I wasn't careful when I was writing that one.
To be clear, I don't underestimate waiters, food attendants and all, although for you that might have been the tone of my entry but really, I don't. Who am I to do so anyway? I have nothing against waiters, food attendants. The entry wasn't for demeaning or looking down upon the people (from PHB Eastwood though, not Gateway) that I was talking about. It probably had something to do with how I wrote it, the words I used or the way I had presented/talked about it, which you have found offensive and mean and made you think I was belittling them. It wasn't my intention and I'm sorry if it meant in a wrong way. Casualan na kwento lang and you don't know me personally kaya baka sarcastic ang dating sayo. But really, I didn't mean anything bad and to sound/appear rude with that entry. Basically, it was just a good and fun post-birthday night with friends kind of story and the part regarding the waiter/food attendant was misinterpreted perhaps. I've read it again and it made me shriek out of embarrassment. I wrote it in a crappy, giddy way, well, because the story's actual purpose was for reminiscingI was so ecstatic that I wasn't very cautious with what I said and how I said it when I was telling the story. I see why you reacted that way and I understand. My blog wasn't open and intended for public viewing at that time (since 2005-2009) so all my entries were just casually written and really personal. My blog wasn't even listed for blog search then. The entries were solely for me and a few friends. I didn't actually think that anyone would stumble upon my old entries but of course, I should have known better.
Anyway, I did appreciate all the things you said. Thank you. :) I just hope you'll be able to see my response for you. Once you do, I hope you'll check out my recent entries. They're more sensible. I think. Haha!
And oh, even if it was a random comment, I meant it. I really did find the waiter/food attendant cute. :) In spite of the other prone-to-misinterpretation things that I had said, it was a compliment.

With that, I have decided to revert my posts circa 2005-2008 to drafts (It was my 'dear virtual diary' era). Better to be safe than sorry. I would rather not delete my older entries though because those were my memories, my little reminders of who and how I was. No matter how senseless (or not) they were. (Or I might go through them later, when I have more time, to see which among them can be posted publicly again and which will stay in drafts.) I'll just keep them away from misinterpretation of people that might be taken or used against me later on. Think before the click. It's the world wide web after all. :)

5. Go Negosyo's 4th Women Entrepreneurship Summit
A workmate and I were asked to attend Go Negosyo's 4th Women Entrepreneurship Summit that our office was invited to yesterday. I was kind of excited since I'm interested to know more about the world of business. The moment we entered the place though, my workmate and I got distracted by the business stalls and we spent almost three hours roaming and shopping around instead of listening to the guest speakers for that day! Haha! Well, we watched the awarding of the top 10 women entrepreneurs for this year for a while then we went back to shopping. :) It was the first bazaar I had ever been to actually. Since we were preoccupied by these exhibitors, we didn't notice that there were mini-seminars held simultaneously at one corner and at the lobby area of the World Trade Center! We could have sat down there first if we knew earlier! Baaaaad. There were interesting talks pa naman. The talks lasted for about 30 minutes each, if I recall correctly. The topics we were interested in though were either done by the time we saw it or were scheduled later in the afternoon. We had to leave the place after lunch. Sayang.

Accessories that I bought from the bazaar

And oh, the summit was held simultaneously with Super Sale Bazaar as well. I had to restrain myself so I can physically and mentally resist from going inside that bazaar and be officially bankrupt just 3 days after payday. Hahaha!

6. I have found a supplier! :)
I wasn't just shopping yesterday. I happen to have met someone (whose items I have actually hoarded, hahaha!) who can supply some accessories for my mini-business! The idea of having a supplier was opened when my workmate mentioned that I, too, sell handmade accessories. The accessory designer told me that most of her clients are re-sellers of her items. So right then and there, I thought I probably need a supplier. I make most of the items that I sell and I intend for it to stay the same. But once I go to school again, it would be harder for me to produce items for sale. I would still be able to make the items but it would be in lesser quantities so having a supplier is probably a good option to go for. So I asked for her contact details and I will be contacting her by next week. :) Let's see how this goes. :)
