Top 12 for 2012

In non-chronological order.

1. On wheels, by plane, on foot or through a boat. I don't care how I get there. It's the destination and the people you travel with that matters. You wander, you get lost, you stop and take your time to be amazed by what you see and to savor how it makes you feel.

2. There's a reason why you meet certain people in your life. Whatever that reason is, you would know it somewhere along your journey together. You are one of the greatest things that happened in my life this year. I gained a friend in you. I am not entirely sure if I am in love with you (and that is beside the point) but I know you are special. You made me laugh. You made me feel good. You inspired me. You made me feel how it is to be young, giddy and kilig again. You taught me things. You looked past your first impression on me and made an effort to get to know me. Thank you for all the memories we shared together. Thank you for everything. Alam mo na yun. I will surely miss you.

3. In reaching your goals, it is important to take one step at a time.

4. I am thankful for the creative ability you have given me, Lord. Not only do I gain profit from it, I get opportunities like this, too. Thank you for that, too, Lord.

5. Like my family, friends are important to me, too. In any kind of relationship, it is of high value that you work on it, maintain communication, be there for each other through ups and downs. Once you found a good friend/set of friends, make damn sure you keep them. Chances are you'll never meet and have someone like them again. This year, I:

6. One morning in May, when I was swimming in one of the beaches in Boracay, I thought of going to Australia. I wanted to do something drastic in my life by the time I reach 25. I never imagined it would happen sooner! So yes, the cat is out of the bag! I'm not only going but I'm moving to Australia! Thank you, Lord! :)

7. "I know how beautiful and special weddings could be. With all the fuss and the hype during the preparation, it's not impossible for a couple to create the most perfect wedding they can ever come up with. More than that, it's all about the celebration of their love. With God's blessing, it marks the start of their journey together for eternity. I never understood how overwhelming weddings could be until that day when one of my closest friends got married. My excitement and happiness is a lot different compared to the other weddings I had attended. Probably, because she is my friend and I was really involved in her wedding preparations.

And when I said 'involved in her wedding preparations,' I mean, really involved."

8. Fashion has always been my passion. This year, my mom allowed me to start fashion school! I learned how to create sketches that are, at the very least, pleasant to look at and to use watercolor! What can I say, I'm proud of myself! Hahaha!

9. I got involved in a foundation whose advocacy is breast cancer. Breast cancer is among the leading causes of death in women. We went to different places to teach about breast cancer, how to prevent it and the possible treatments when diagnosed, etc. We did breast self-examination to women who participated in our lectures. This was my own little way of contributing to the society and helping Filipino women to prevent and battle cancer.

10. Despite my slightly lower BMI and small frame, I have always been healthy. Thank you, Lord, for that. I never had anything more than cough, colds, fever. Until a few days before my 24th birthday. My fever had been on a whole other level. I had dengue! OMG. As a nurse, I already had a hunch. But I observed myself for a few days first. I know I will be confined most definitely. Since I don't want to celebrate my birthday in a hospital, I extended check-up and confinement until after my birthday. Haha! (Okay kids, don't do that. That's bad.) I hit the minimum limit of platelet count that is allowable for IVF treatment. Thank God, I didn't need a transfusion! Oh, I was diagnosed with mild scoliosis early this year, too.

These are only the highlights but in totality, I have a good 2012. It could have been better but it could have been worse. For that, I am already grateful. Thank you Lord for helping me to become more patient. Thank you Lord for showing me how love should be. Thank you Lord for reminding me that I should be with someone deserving, who appreciates my worth and won't give me less of what I deserve. Thank you Lord for leading me to something that will give me more sense of fulfillment. Thank you Lord for creative expression and karma. I am thankful for every single day, for every disappointment, for every laughter, for all the blessings, for every single person I met, for just about everything in my life.

I can't wait for 2013! I know it'll be brighter and better! :)
